Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), in collaboration with Maldives Blood Services, conducted a blood donation drive for its staff today in response to the recently declared national blood supply emergency, as efforts intensify to stabilise the country’s blood reserves.
The initiative was aimed at supporting Maldives Blood Services in replenishing critical blood stocks while raising awareness among employees about the importance of voluntary blood donation in sustaining life-saving medical services.
Held on-site, the drive provided MWSC employees with direct access to donation facilities, enabling participation despite work commitments. The setup was designed to encourage broader involvement by removing logistical barriers and creating a supportive environment for donors.
The programme also served as an internal awareness effort, reinforcing the role of regular blood donation in maintaining healthcare continuity across the Maldives. Blood shortages have been identified as a pressing concern, with national authorities calling for increased public participation to address supply gaps.
MWSC stated that its employees have consistently taken part in community-driven initiatives, reflecting an ongoing commitment to social responsibility. The company noted that such programmes are part of a broader effort to contribute to national well-being and support essential public services.
The collaboration with Maldives Blood Services comes at a time when institutional and corporate participation is seen as critical to strengthening the resilience of the country’s healthcare system, particularly in ensuring timely access to blood for emergency and routine medical needs.
