The first batch of the National Apprenticeship Program and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)’s Hunavaru training program has been successfully completed, with 54 participants awarded certificates at a ceremony held last night at Hulhulé Island Hotel.
The event was
officiated by Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Ibrahim
Waheed, who commended MACL’s commitment to human resource development. In his
remarks, the Minister underscored the importance of capacity-building
initiatives in strengthening companies that depend on highly skilled personnel,
particularly in sectors such as aviation.
MACL’s Deputy
Managing Director, Mujtaba Latheef, also spoke at the ceremony, highlighting
the impact of the Hunavaru Program in preparing Maldivians for
careers in aviation. He announced that a new batch of the program will be
launched in the coming week, offering expanded opportunities to aspiring youth.
The
Hunavaru Program, a flagship initiative of MACL, provides
structured training in multiple disciplines essential to the company’s
operations. Through the Dhalan Expo conducted by the Ministry of
Higher Education, Labor, and Skills Development, 25 youth enrolled in the
program. Following six months of intensive training, 17 participants have now
been offered employment opportunities within MACL.
Meanwhile, the
National Apprenticeship Program, organized by the Ministry of Youth
Empowerment, Information and Arts, was also celebrated at the ceremony. This
initiative aims to bridge the gap between unemployed youth, employers, and
education providers, creating sustainable pathways to employment. Under MACL’s
involvement in the program, 34 existing employees without prior formal
qualifications have now obtained a National Qualifications Framework (NQF)
Level 3 certificate.
The successful
completion of the first batch marks a significant milestone in the country’s
efforts to equip its youth and workforce with essential skills, paving the way
for stronger participation in national development and the aviation industry.
