Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has said that President Mohamed Muizzu has decided to provide special incentives to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) over the next two years.
The minister made the remarks while speaking at a press conference held today, noting that the decision was taken following discussions at a Cabinet meeting held yesterday.
According to Minister Saeed, the move comes after reviewing concerns and complaints raised by SMEs during meetings with business operators. He said the Cabinet considered the challenges faced by SMEs across various sectors before reaching the decision.
He added that consultations were carried out with relevant government institutions and stakeholders involved in business activities, including the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Ports Limited, and Maldives Airports Company Limited.
Further details on the incentives and their implementation are expected to be announced at a later date.
