In a move aimed
at easing the financial burden on households during the holy month of Ramadan,
the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has announced a discount of at
least 10% on electricity bills for all residential customers. This initiative
mirrors the company’s efforts last year and is set to offer much-needed relief
as families prepare for the special month.
STELCO confirmed
that electricity consumption readings for the month of Ramadan will be taken
separately, with the first reading scheduled for tomorrow. The final reading
will take place on the last day of Ramadan, providing a clear breakdown of
usage throughout the month.
The discount,
which will be based on consumption levels over the past year, ensures that
every household will receive a minimum reduction of 10% on their electricity
bills. In cases where electricity usage is higher, customers may qualify for
additional discounts, depending on their consumption patterns.
President Dr
Mohamed Muizzu expressed the government’s continued support for easing the
financial strain on the public during Ramadan. He reaffirmed the government’s
commitment to extending electricity and water bill discounts during the holy
month, a measure that has been well-received by the public in previous years.
