The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) will conduct a nationwide survey on Friday, April 10, 2026, targeting foreign workers in the Greater Malé region to better understand remittance patterns.
The initiative aims to collect key data on money sent abroad by expatriates working in the Maldives. According to the MMA, the findings will support the compilation of the country’s Balance of Payments (BOP) statistics—an essential tool for assessing the nation’s economic transactions with the rest of the world.
The survey will gather information on several aspects of remittance behavior, including the methods or channels used by foreign workers to transfer money, how frequently these transfers are made, and the average amounts sent overseas.
The MMA has emphasized that participation in the survey will not compromise personal privacy. Authorities confirmed that no identifying details—such as names, passport numbers, or work permit information—will be collected.
All data obtained through the survey will remain strictly confidential, the central bank assured.
The MMA has encouraged foreign workers to take part in the survey, noting that their participation will contribute to improving the accuracy of national economic data and policymaking.
