Team “Baakee” emerged victorious at the Ooredoo Mas Race held last Friday in K. Huraa, scoring 545 points to secure the championship title among 19 competing teams from the Malé area. The team walked away with a cash prize of MVR 25,000.
“Noru” claimed
second place with 490 points, winning MVR 10,000, while “Anantara” secured
third place with 370 points, taking home MVR 5,000.
The event also
featured individual awards. The largest catch of the competition was a
21-kilogram grouper, landed by Anantara’s Malaaz. Club MTCC’s Ziyadh was named
Best Fisherman after reeling in 36 fish, while STELCO Kanbalun’s Ameena was
awarded Best Fisherwoman with a catch of 7 fish. Both winners received a PIO
Ultimate Sea Spirit/Gangstar (H/D) fishing rod sponsored by Hai Fishing
Tackles.
Marking
Ooredoo’s 20th anniversary, this year’s Mas Race is being held across two
islands — K. Huraa and Sh. Funadhoo. The K. Huraa event was the 16th edition of
the tournament, a cultural highlight that continues to draw strong
participation and community enthusiasm.
The Ooredoo Mas
Race remains one of the country’s most popular fishing competitions,
celebrating Maldivian fishing traditions while bringing together teams and
individuals from across the nation.
