The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) convened a stakeholder meeting today to discuss the ongoing preparations for the opening of the new Hanimaadhoo International Airport. The meeting, held at Hulhule Island Hotel, brought together senior officials from key national agencies to ensure a coordinated and efficient operational readiness plan ahead of the airport’s opening.
The session was
attended by MACL’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim
Shareef Mohamed, Deputy Managing Director Mujtaba Latheef, and members of the
company’s senior management team. Also present were Immigration Controller (CP
Retired) Ahmed Faseeh, Commissioner General of Customs Fathimath Diyana, and
representatives from the Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Immigration,
Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, Maldives Police Service, Maldives National
Defence Force (MNDF), and Maldives National Air Traffic Services (MNATS), among
others.
Addressing the
participants, CEO Ibrahim Shareef emphasized that MACL is actively working to
resolve remaining operational issues at Hanimaadhoo International Airport and
ensure that the facility meets all safety and service standards before its
opening. He reaffirmed MACL’s commitment to strengthening the airport’s safety
and security measures once it officially takes over operations.
Shareef also
highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration, stating that MACL
will continue to consult with all relevant authorities in its operational
processes. “We value the partnership and input of our stakeholders. Their
continued support and cooperation are essential to ensuring the successful
operation of Hanimaadhoo International Airport,” he said.
The meeting
underscored the government’s broader efforts to enhance regional air
connectivity and improve economic opportunities in the northern Maldives
through the new international gateway, which is expected to play a key role in
supporting tourism and trade once operational.
