Bank of Maldives has completed its project to install ATMs
on every inhabited island in the country, providing 24-hour access to banking
services nationwide. The announcement was made at a ceremony held today to
recognize the work carried out under the ‘Mulhi Raajje Ah BML ATM’ initiative.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attended the event and
presented certificates of recognition to the project team for completing the
work within nine months. The first ATM was installed in February 2025, and the
rollout covered 105 islands across all 20 atolls.
According to Bank of Maldives, the project involved
coordinating with multiple partners to deliver the installations in a short
timeframe while reducing expenses by approximately 33 percent compared to
typical ATM deployment costs.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO and Managing Director Mohamed
Shareef said the project fulfills a long-standing commitment to ensure access
to banking services no matter where people live. He highlighted that the new
network allows customers to withdraw cash and use key services without
traveling long distances.
The project has also received international recognition,
earning the ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Financial Inclusion’ award
from Qorus, a global financial industry program.
