The State Trading Organization (STO) has assured the public that the Maldives is not facing a gas shortage and that current supply disruptions will be resolved promptly. The announcement comes amid fluctuations in global and regional cooking gas markets that have affected supply chains across the country.
In response to the temporary disruption, STO’s subsidiary, Maldives Gas, is distributing 7kg gas cylinders at discounted rates as an alternative to the standard 10kg cylinders. An STO official emphasized that both gas importing companies in the Maldives are working closely to “manage and control” distribution during such periods, ensuring that households continue to have access to cooking gas.
The official further reassured citizens, stating, “The issue will be completely resolved very soon, and we will resume the sale of 10kg gas cylinders as per usual.” He confirmed that there is no complete depletion of gas stocks in the country and expressed confidence in the organization’s ability to maintain stable supply through careful inventory management.
With Ramadan underway, a period marked by increased cooking and dietary activity, Maldives Gas is reportedly stepping up preparations to meet higher demand. “We assure the public that we will continue our efforts to provide convenient and reliable services to all citizens,” the official added.
STO’s prompt measures and assurances aim to calm public concern, signaling that the temporary adjustments in cylinder sizes and distribution are short-term solutions while the standard supply chain is restored.
