Bank of Maldives has introduced a simplified digital process that allows Maldivians travelling overseas for medical treatment to book medical dollars directly through its Mobile Banking App, streamlining what was previously a more time-consuming procedure.
The bank announced that customers can now apply for medical dollars within the app, upload the necessary documents and monitor the progress of their application through a single platform. The move is aimed at easing financial preparations for patients seeking treatment abroad, particularly during urgent medical travel.
Under the updated arrangement, patients travelling overseas for treatment through Aasandha and the National Social Protection Agency will be eligible to obtain up to USD 2,000. Individuals who are self-financing their medical care will be able to access up to USD 1,000 through the same process.
Bank of Maldives stated that approved medical dollar allocations will be credited exclusively to customers’ USD accounts. To support the transition, the bank has enabled users to open a USD account easily via the Mobile Banking App without visiting a branch.
The digital enhancement reflects the bank’s broader efforts to expand online banking services and improve accessibility for customers managing essential overseas expenses. Officials noted that simplifying access to medical dollars is expected to reduce administrative delays and provide greater convenience for patients and their families during medical travel.
