In a move aimed at ensuring uninterrupted food supplies ahead of Ramadan, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has established a 3,000-square-foot shed to expedite the clearance of perishable goods at the Malé ports.

The newly constructed facility is designed to facilitate the rapid extraction of imported perishable food items from the port area, helping importers move goods into the market more efficiently. MPL stated that the primary objective of the shed is to streamline the removal process, particularly as food imports surge during the holy month.

According to the company, the additional space will significantly reduce congestion at the port by accelerating unloading and clearance procedures. This is expected to play a key role in maintaining a steady supply of essential commodities in shops and markets across the country.

Ramadan traditionally brings a sharp increase in the import of food items, including fresh produce, frozen goods, and other perishables. MPL noted that the new shed not only improves operational flow but also provides secure and organized storage space, ensuring that goods are handled safely while awaiting clearance.
