Ooredoo Maldives has assured customers that its internet services remain unaffected despite disruptions to undersea cables in the Red Sea that have caused connectivity issues in several countries.
Ooredoo Chief Commercial Officer Hussain Niyaz confirmed in a post on X that the company’s services in the Maldives continue without interruption. He explained that Ooredoo’s submarine cables connect to alternative routes, including Singapore, which provide redundancy solutions in case of such incidents.
The cable outages in the Red Sea occurred last Sunday, with internet access monitoring group NetBlocks reporting degraded connectivity in India, Pakistan, and other affected regions. However, Ooredoo said its network resilience measures ensure that Maldivian customers are not impacted.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns globally about the vulnerability of subsea cables, which serve as the backbone of international internet and telecommunications infrastructure.
