Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has entered into a strategic partnership with SriLankan Airlines aimed at strengthening international connectivity and improving passenger access between the Maldives and a wider global network.
Under the agreement, Maldivian will be able to accommodate more passengers originating from SriLankan Airlines’ international routes, connecting through Colombo to 17 domestic destinations across the Maldives beyond Malé. The partnership is expected to enhance travel flows into the atolls by leveraging SriLankan Airlines’ established global network.
The collaboration also introduces more seamless travel options for international visitors, enabling smoother connections into the Maldives via Colombo. This is expected to improve accessibility for travellers from key global markets, supporting continued demand for travel to the island nation.
At the same time, Maldivian passengers will benefit from improved outbound connectivity, with easier access to a broader range of international destinations through SriLankan Airlines’ network. The arrangement is designed to reduce travel friction and expand route options for Maldivian travellers.
“This partnership marks another important step in our efforts to enhance accessibility to the Maldives and strengthen connectivity beyond Malé to the atolls,” said Ibrahim Iyas. “With Sri Lankan Airlines’ extensive global reach and our domestic network, this collaboration will support tourism growth while also making international travel more convenient for Maldivians.”
The partnership reflects a broader effort by both carriers to deepen regional cooperation and improve network integration. By aligning domestic and international connectivity, the airlines aim to deliver a more seamless travel experience while supporting tourism and business travel into the Maldives and facilitating outbound travel for Maldivians.
