Huraa Council has announced an Invitation for Bids for the lease of land for the development and operation of a guesthouse in Huraa, Kaafu Atoll, as part of efforts to promote local tourism and create employment opportunities for youth.
The project aims to reduce unemployment and stimulate the
island’s economy by encouraging private sector investment in community-based
tourism.
In a statement, the Council said it is inviting eligible
local investors to submit expressions of interest to develop guesthouse
facilities in designated tourism zones on the island.
According to the announcement, the Huraa Tourism Zone
consists of 13 plots located within newly reclaimed land on the northern side
of Huraa, near the guest beach, as well as four plots on the northeastern side
of the island.
The land will be leased for a maximum period of 50 years in
accordance with Section 8 of the Tourism Act (Law No. 2/99).
The Council, representing the Government of Maldives, said
the public tendering process forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen
local economic development, expand tourism infrastructure, and enhance
livelihood opportunities for residents.
Interested investors are encouraged to participate in the
bidding process in line with the guidelines set out in the tender documents.
Huraa, located near the capital Malé, is known for its strong sports and cultural traditions. Many residents are employed in the tourism sector, with a nearby resort providing significant job opportunities for the island community.
