The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) will conduct an
essential, scheduled maintenance shutdown at its Hulhumalé power plant tomorrow
morning, resulting in temporary power outages across parts of the Malé region.
The maintenance work on the 50 MW plant is scheduled between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
During this four-hour window, different areas in Malé and
Hulhumalé will experience a power outage for approximately one hour each.
STELCO has confirmed that residents will receive an SMS notification with the
specific timing for their area, allowing them to plan for the brief
interruption.
The utility company has assured that the power cuts will not
affect critical infrastructure such as hospitals and other vital services.
Crews will also work to complete the maintenance ahead of schedule to restore
power as quickly as possible.
STELCO stated that this preventive maintenance is a
strategic step to strengthen the grid and ensure a more reliable electricity
supply, helping to avert potential future issues. The company apologized for
any inconvenience caused and reiterated its commitment to providing a secure
and dependable energy supply.
