Bank of Maldives (BML) has further expanded its footprint in Raa Atoll with the official opening of a new BML Islamic branch in Dhuvaafaru. The branch was inaugurated today by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, at a ceremony attended by the Bank’s Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb and Deputy CEO & COO Sahar Waheed.
The Dhuvaafaru branch will provide a full suite of Shari’ah-compliant banking services under the Bank’s Islamic Finance First policy, reaffirming BML’s commitment to offering inclusive and accessible financial services throughout the country.
Speaking at the event, officials highlighted the strategic importance of the expansion, which strengthens BML’s position as the Maldives' leading financial institution. The Bank now operates 40 branches across all 20 atolls, 133 Self-Service Banking Centres, 188 ATMs, and offers a wide range of Agent Banking and digital banking services.
“The opening of this new Islamic branch reflects our dedication to financial inclusion and the continued development of our services across the country,” said the Bank in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring that every island has access to essential banking services.”
BML’s first branch was established in Malé in 1982. Since then, the Bank has grown steadily, with a clear focus on expanding access to banking across the Maldives. The new Dhuvaafaru branch marks a significant milestone as the Bank’s 40th branch.
