Fatimath Ashan has been appointed
as the Managing Director of Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM), making her the first
woman to lead the government-owned oil company under the State Trading
Organization (STO).
Ashan previously served as a board
member of STO and as a Senior General Manager within the organization. She also
worked as the Deputy CEO at the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).
An accomplished professional, Ashan
holds a Diploma in Business (Information Technology) from the Hobart Institute
of Technical and Further Education in Australia, completed in 1994, and a
Master’s in Business Administration from KDU College in Malaysia, completed in
2003.
Ashan replaces Ismail Suhail, who
resigned as FSM Managing Director on November 26, less than a year after taking
the role on December 5, 2023. Suhail’s resignation followed a police
investigation into allegations that FSM employees had stolen fuel and laundered
money from its sale.
