Maldivian, the
national airline of the Maldives, has officially launched scheduled seaplane
services to Baa Atoll, marking a significant expansion in domestic air travel.
The service commenced on March 31, coinciding with the Fitr Eid celebrations,
and has already witnessed strong demand.
The newly
introduced seaplane flights operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays,
with routes covering Fulhadhoo, Goidhoo, and Fehendhoo islands in Baa Atoll.
The response to the service has been overwhelmingly positive, with the first
two scheduled trips reaching full capacity. Another flight is set to take off
next Thursday, indicating a growing interest among travelers.
Each seaplane
can accommodate between 12 and 13 passengers, offering a swift and convenient
travel option for those heading to the atoll. The journey from Malé to
Fulhadhoo takes approximately 25 minutes, significantly reducing travel time
compared to traditional speedboat transfers. Ticket prices for the service are
set at MVR 1,099 per passenger.
Maldivian
operates a fleet of 11 aircraft dedicated to its seaplane services, further
strengthening connectivity across the Maldives. In addition to the seaplane
operations, the airline has increased its domestic flights to cater to the
surge in travel demand during the Eid holidays.
With the
introduction of scheduled seaplane services to Baa Atoll, Maldivian aims to
enhance accessibility to more islands, supporting both tourism and local
travel.
