Auditor General Hussain Niyazy met Ambassador of the People's Republic of China H.E. Kong Xianhua this week to discuss ongoing cooperation between the Auditor General's Office of the Maldives and the National Audit Office of China, according to information published by the audit office.
The two sides reviewed progress on capacity-building programs under an existing memorandum of understanding between the two institutions. Discussions included plans to launch a young auditor internship program. The program would give young auditors from both countries hands-on experience in each other's institutions.
Officials also discussed expanding exchange opportunities for auditors from the Maldives and China. Both sides said they remain committed to strengthening institutional cooperation and building professional capacity through continued engagement.
The Auditor General's Office of the Maldives has maintained institutional ties with China's National Audit Office for several years. The office lists the Chinese audit institution among its international affiliations.
Ambassador Kong Xianhua took up his post in the Maldives in April 2025. He has previously held meetings with Maldivian officials and business groups, including discussions with tourism industry representatives earlier this year on strengthening the Chinese visitor market.
Audit cooperation between Maldives and China fits into a wider pattern of institutional exchange between the two countries. Maldivian officials have taken part in similar training and capacity-building programs with audit bodies in India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Malaysia in recent months.
