Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) marked a new milestone today with the launch of direct flights between Baku and the Maldives, as its inaugural flight touched down at Velana International Airport at 9:45 a.m. The arrival was celebrated with a special welcoming ceremony attended by key figures, including Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Sharif Mohammed and senior officials of the company.
The new route, operating twice weekly on Fridays and Sundays, will use an Airbus B787 to connect the two countries. This marks the first direct flight service between Azerbaijan and the Maldives, opening a streamlined travel option for Azerbaijani tourists looking to explore the pristine beaches and luxury resorts of the Maldives.
MACL’s Chief
Commercial Officer Mohammed Mihad expressed enthusiasm for the partnership,
noting that the direct route strengthens transportation links and provides a
smoother travel experience for visitors. This new route is a valuable
addition to our connectivity options, providing convenience and strengthening
ties between the Maldives and Azerbaijan, he said.
Chief Commercial Officer of Azerbaijan Airlines, Jamil Manizade, highlighted the route's strategic importance, particularly for Azerbaijani tourists seeking winter getaways. Launching direct flights to a popular destination like Maldives in the winter season offers an ideal option for Azerbaijani travelers. With the Maldives becoming increasingly popular, we are pleased to offer this direct access, Manizade remarked.
Tickets for the
route are now available on Azerbaijan Airlines’ official website, mobile app,
and at AZAL ticket offices. The flights eliminate layovers, offering a
time-saving alternative for travelers eager to reach the Maldives and embark on
a memorable vacation.
