Land reclamation works in Haa Alif Dhidhoo are progressing as planned, with 78 hectares reclaimed so far, marking 70 percent completion of the overall project.
The works are being carried out using Leiv Eiriksson, a trailing suction hopper dredger with a capacity of 46,000 cubic metres, enabling large-scale and efficient sand reclamation.
The project is being implemented by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which commenced reclamation works on 5 January 2026.
In recent years, MACL has expanded into major land reclamation and dredging initiatives. As part of this expansion, the company established Peninsular Infrastructure Private Limited to manage large-scale projects, including the Rasmalé development.
MACL is also actively involved in dredging works for airport developments and other infrastructure projects, with several initiatives focusing on large-scale sand extraction to support national development.
The Dhidhoo reclamation project is expected to enhance land availability, support urban development, and strengthen economic and social infrastructure in the northern Maldives.
