Saudia, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, has marked 10 years of operations to the Maldives, highlighting a decade of connectivity that has supported the country’s tourism sector and strengthened bilateral ties.
The milestone was celebrated on March 30 at Velana International Airport, where a ceremony was held to commemorate the airline’s decade-long presence in the Maldivian market.
Passengers arriving on Saudia’s SV838 flight were welcomed as part of the anniversary celebrations, while departing passengers from Terminal 1 were presented with commemorative treats on the airline’s scheduled service.
Saudia commenced scheduled flights to the Maldives on March 30, 2016, and has since maintained consistent operations to the destination. Over the past decade, the airline has contributed to enhancing connectivity between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, supporting tourism flows and broader economic linkages.
The airline’s continued presence reflects the Maldives’ position as a key destination in its network, while also reinforcing air connectivity as a critical component of the country’s tourism-driven economy.
Airline partnerships and sustained route operations remain essential to maintaining visitor arrivals and supporting the resilience of the tourism sector, which continues to be the main driver of economic activity in the Maldives.
