Bank of Maldives (BML) has received a special award in recognition of its continued efforts to promote and develop sports in the Maldives.
The award was presented at the Maldives Sports Awards, organized by the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation. It was accepted on behalf of the bank by its CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef.
The recognition highlights BML’s sustained commitment to supporting the country’s sporting landscape. Each year, the bank collaborates with national sports organizations to promote sports, assist in organizing national competitions, and contribute to the development of athletes’ skills.
As part of these efforts, BML has established long-term partnerships with several key sporting associations, including football, swimming, tennis, basketball and surfing. These collaborations have played an important role in strengthening grassroots development and enhancing opportunities for athletes across multiple disciplines.
In 2023, BML launched the BML Sports Scholarship program, aimed at providing young athletes with access to structured training opportunities. To date, eight athletes have benefited from the initiative.
The bank has also expanded its infrastructure support, signing an agreement with the Maldives Basketball Association to develop a dedicated basketball arena. In addition, BML continues its long-standing support for football in the country, having served as the official sponsor of the national football team since 2017.
