The number of Italian tourists visiting the Maldives has exceeded 100,000 this year, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
As of August 19,
a total of 1,422,544 tourists had arrived in the Maldives. Within the first 19
days of August alone, 127,676 visitors were recorded, marking a 5.3 percent
increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 121,201 arrivals were
reported.
China continues
to lead as the top source market with 220,022 arrivals, followed by Russia with
169,167 tourists. The United Kingdom ranks third with 130,171 arrivals, while
Italy secured fourth place with 102,558 visitors.
Currently, the
Maldives tourism industry is supported by 174 operating resorts, 16 hotels, 891
guesthouses, and 161 safari vessels. The government has set a target of
attracting 2.3 million tourist arrivals by the end of this year.
The growth in
visitor numbers underscores the Maldives’ enduring appeal as a leading global
travel destination, with European markets, including Italy, continuing to play
a significant role in sustaining the sector.
