The Ministry of Health has given Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) the contract to service ambulances and vehicles used in hospitals and health centres across the Maldives.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Health Ministry and MPL to formalise the agreement. State Minister for Health Ismail Abdulla signed on behalf of the ministry, while MPL Deputy CEO Mohamed Mueen signed on behalf of MPL.
Under the agreement, MPL will provide maintenance and servicing for ambulances and other vehicles operated by hospitals and health centres across the country.
The ministry had previously also given MPL a contract under the contractor finance policy to bring ambulances to the Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference last week, Health Minister Abdul Nazim said several ambulances in the country were not being properly serviced, resulting in some vehicles going out of operation.
He said the ministry has been exploring ways to improve the servicing and maintenance of ambulances to ensure they remain operational.
Nazim added that the ministry is continuing efforts to bring additional ambulances to the Maldives while also replacing vehicles that are no longer in service.
