Maafaru International Airport capped off 2024 with an
impressive performance, reinforcing its position as a premier gateway for
luxury travel to the Maldives. Operated by Island Aviation Services Limited,
the airport showcased remarkable resilience, achieving significant aircraft
movements despite being temporarily closed from June to September for a major
runway expansion project.
December 2024 was a standout month, with 98 private jet
movements underscoring the airport’s pivotal role in accommodating
high-net-worth individuals seeking seamless access to the world-renowned luxury
resorts in Noonu Atoll. The completion of the runway expansion ahead of the
peak holiday season has further enhanced the airport’s ability to cater to
discerning travelers.
Reflecting on the airport’s achievements, Mumthaz Ali,
General Manager Airports at Island Aviation Services Limited, stated, “The
advancements we made last year demonstrate our dedication to innovation and
excellence. The annual performance and December figures at Maafaru
International Airport provide evidence of the airport's increasing position as
a leading luxury aviation hub. We have introduced additional services like
ground transportation, and apron work is currently ongoing. Our airport is set
to undergo a comprehensive transformation to better meet the needs of our
passengers.”
Maafaru International Airport’s strategic location and
commitment to superior service make it a key player in the Maldives’ tourism
and economic growth strategies. As the country continues to attract
high-spending tourists, the airport is poised to play an even greater role in
the nation’s luxury travel sector.
