Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced temporary traffic restrictions at Velana International Airport on 26th July 2025, in conjunction with the official opening ceremony of the new passenger terminal. The changes are being implemented to ensure a safe and secure environment for the high-profile event.
According to
MACL, traffic flow within the airport premises will be altered between 19:00
hrs and 23:30 hrs on the day of the event. During this period, access to the
Airport Main Road and Terminal Road will be restricted exclusively to
authorized vehicles.
All other
vehicles will be permitted to proceed only as far as the Police Post and the
Eastern Parking Area. To facilitate movement, MACL has arranged internal
shuttle services to transport passengers and staff between these designated
points and the terminal.
Despite the
restrictions within the airport premises, MACL confirmed that scheduled public
transportation services, including buses and ferries operating between Malé,
Hulhumalé, and Hulhulé, will continue without interruption.
The temporary
traffic adjustments come as part of the broader operational preparations for
the long-anticipated unveiling of the Velana New Terminal, which is expected to
significantly enhance the airport’s capacity and passenger experience.
Authorities urge all airport users to plan ahead and cooperate with on-ground
personnel to ensure smooth access during the ceremonial hours
