Tourist arrivals to the Maldives in August rose by 9 percent compared to the same month last year, according to new statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism. A total of 192,058 tourists visited the country last month, up from 176,175 in August 2024.
With this
increase, the total number of visitors so far this year has reached 1.49
million, keeping the Maldives on track toward the government’s target of
attracting 2.5 million tourists in 2025. The ministry noted that, on average,
more than 6,100 tourists are currently arriving in the country each day.
The data also
highlighted tourist preferences for accommodation, with 73.4 percent of
visitors choosing resorts, 21.9 percent opting for guesthouses, and around 2
percent staying in hotels or safari vessels.
China topped the
list of source markets for the Maldives over the past eight months with 235,245
arrivals, followed by Russia with 177,581 visitors, and the United Kingdom with
134,114. Italy, Germany, and India also remained among the strongest contributors
to the Maldives tourism market, with notable arrivals from the United States,
France, Spain, and Switzerland.
The top 10 countries with the most tourists in the past
eight months are:
China - 235,245 tourists
Russia - 177,581 tourists
United Kingdom - 134,114 tourists
Italy - 106,230 tourists
Germany - 102,496 tourists
India - 85,045 tourists
United States - 43,560 tourists

Tourism
continues to be the backbone of the Maldivian economy, and the steady growth in
arrivals underscores the sector’s resilience and the country’s enduring
popularity as a global holiday destination.
