Tourist arrivals to the Maldives continued to show strong
momentum in September 2025, with the first two weeks delivering double-digit
growth compared to last year.
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of
Tourism, 66,561 visitors arrived between 1–14 September, marking a 15.8 percent
increase over the same period in 2024.
This latest boost builds on steady gains recorded throughout
the year. From January to August, arrivals rose consistently month-on-month
against 2024 levels, with particularly sharp jumps in April (17.8%), May
(13.1%), and June (15%). Cumulative arrivals as of 14 September now stand at 1,553,487,
representing a 9.7 percent increase year-on-year.
China continues to lead as the largest source market,
contributing 246,063 arrivals (15.8%) so far this year. Russia follows with 186,927
arrivals, while the United Kingdom holds third place at 139,368 arrivals. Italy
and Germany round out the top five, with India maintaining its position in
sixth place.
Accommodation figures show that resorts remain the dominant
sector, welcoming nearly three-quarters of all arrivals, while guesthouses
accounted for just under 22 percent. The remainder was distributed across
hotels and safari vessels.
September is traditionally considered an off-peak period for
Maldives tourism, but the healthy early-month performance suggests that the
country is solidifying its status as a year-round destination.
Industry observers note that arrivals in September and
October will serve as a key indicator ahead of the winter high season beginning
in November, which will determine how strongly the tourism industry closes out
2025.
