Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced that emerging surfing talent Sayyid Salahudheen is the recipient of its prestigious Sports Scholarship.
Under this year’s scholarship, Sayyid will undertake an extensive international training programme across China, the Philippines and Indonesia. The programme also includes participation in a competition in Australia, providing valuable exposure at a competitive level. In addition to training opportunities, the scholarship will cover the necessary equipment and offer comprehensive support for both training and competition.
The BML Sports Scholarship aims to support athletes in reaching their full potential through structured and targeted development programmes. The initiative is conducted in partnership with the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), which oversees the selection process. The fully funded scholarship enables recipients to train at globally recognised high-performance training centres.
Since its inception, the BML Sports Scholarship has supported eight athletes in advancing their professional sporting careers. The bank continues to play a key role in promoting sports development in the Maldives through partnerships with national associations, including football, swimming, tennis, basketball and surfing.
In recognition of its contributions, Bank of Maldives received a Special Recognition Award from the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation at the Maldives Sports Awards for its efforts in developing and promoting sports nationwide.
