MACL Confirms Completion of President Muizzu’s Airport Terminal Promise

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Deputy Managing Director Mohammed Lamaan has officially confirmed the full completion of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s major infrastructure pledge—the New Passenger Terminal at Velana International Airport. The confirmation comes just days ahead of the terminal’s official inauguration on July 26, 2025.

Describing the terminal’s completion as a central achievement of President Muizzu’s administration, Deputy MD Lamaan emphasized that the project has been delivered in line with the President’s promise to strengthen the country’s aviation infrastructure. “President Muizzu's most important commitment has been completely fulfilled,” he stated, highlighting the significance of the project in transforming the nation’s gateway to the world.

In the lead-up to the grand opening, MACL has entered the final stages of operational preparation. According to Deputy MD Lamaan, full-scale operational trials are actively underway. These include end-to-end testing of all terminal systems, infrastructure integration, staff training programs, and emergency preparedness exercises.

The trials are designed to ensure that every aspect of the terminal's operations—ranging from baggage handling systems to fire safety protocols—is thoroughly validated before opening day. MACL staff are also undergoing final certification processes to ensure seamless passenger experiences from day one.

Deputy MD Lamaan praised the dedication and professionalism of the airport’s workforce. “Our staff are conducting exemplary work in preparing for the terminal opening, and we are grateful for their dedication,” he noted.

The New Passenger Terminal is expected to mark a transformative moment in the Maldives’ aviation sector, enabling expanded international connectivity, improved traveler experience, and greater operational capacity. MACL's comprehensive readiness program underscores the government's broader vision for modernizing key infrastructure across the country.

As July 26 approaches, MACL remains confident that the terminal will be fully ready to welcome passengers, signaling not only the fulfillment of a presidential promise but also a new era of aviation excellence in the Maldives.
