President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the new passenger
terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) today to assess the project's
progress as it nears completion.
He was accompanied by Cabinet Ministers, Ministers at the
President's Office, and other senior government officials. The delegation was
welcomed by MACL’s CEO & Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, along
with Deputy Managing Directors Mujthaba Latheef and Mohamed Lamaan, as well as
other senior company officials.
During the tour, the President visited key areas of the
terminal and received updates on its development. The terminal is set to open
in October, marking a major milestone in the country’s aviation sector.
Designed to accommodate seven million passengers annually,
the new terminal will ease congestion and significantly enhance the passenger
experience at VIA. Spanning 72,000 square meters, it incorporates design
elements inspired by the Maldivian landscape, featuring terrazzo flooring
reminiscent of the sea, wave-like ceiling patterns, and walls adorned with
natural motifs. The facility includes 47 check-in counters, six self-service
kiosks, a state-of-the-art baggage handling system, and advanced security screening
technologies.
With construction in its final stages, MACL remains
committed to delivering a modern, world-class terminal that reflects the
Maldives’ dedication to service excellence and operational efficiency.
