The first bulk shipment of boulder rocks designated for government-funded Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has arrived in the country, marking a major milestone in the implementation of large-scale infrastructure works across the Maldives.
According to
MTCC, the initial consignment contained 56,450 tonnes of boulder rock, which
will be used for the harbor development project in Baa Atoll Maalhos. The
company noted that this shipment is the first installment of a total 2.5
million tonnes of boulder rock to be imported for PSIP projects awarded to
MTCC.
MTCC stated that
deliveries will be accelerated before the end of the year to ensure timely
progress of ongoing infrastructure and coastal protection works. These
materials play a critical role in harbor construction, shoreline stabilization,
and island protection efforts, which are key priorities under the government’s
investment and development agenda.
In a statement,
MTCC emphasized that the PSIP projects entrusted to the company represent large-scale
national developments vital to improving island infrastructure and safeguarding
coastal communities from erosion and climate-related challenges.
MTCC continues
to play a central role in implementing key projects across the atolls,
including harbors, roads, and coastal protection works, contributing
significantly to national connectivity and resilience.
