Registration is
now open for “BurunuBoma,” the Maldives’ largest and most prestigious sport
fishing tournament, set to take place in May 2025. Organized by the Visit
Maldives Club (VMC), the event is expected to attract top anglers from around
the world for a thrilling competition in the Maldives’ breathtaking waters.
BurunuBoma was
officially launched on December 20, 2024, at a ceremony held at the Malé Table
Tennis Hall, attended by key figures including Minister of Fisheries and Ocean
Resources, Ahmed Shiyam. The event is an initiative by VMC, spearheaded by the
Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives),
aimed at fostering a unified tourism community and promoting the Maldives as a
top global travel destination.
Anglers will
compete for the grand prize of USD 10,000 in a competition that emphasizes the
catch-and-release method to support marine conservation efforts. The tournament
is expected to generate global interest among sport fishing enthusiasts,
further solidifying the Maldives as a premier destination for marine sports
tourism.
