The deadline to register for the competition to create artwork and souvenirs using shredded banknotes from the “Ran Dhihafaheh” series is set for May 14, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
The competition, announced by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), aims to give new life to worn-out banknotes that were decommissioned and shredded after being removed from circulation.
The competition has been divided into two categories:
Artwork – creating artistic pieces using shredded banknotes
Souvenirs – designing and producing keepsake items
According to the MMA, entries submitted under the souvenir category should be suitable for use as official gifts by the authority. For the artwork category, shredded banknotes must be used as the primary material in the creation.
The best entries selected from the competition will be exhibited during the Maldives Financial Expo scheduled to be held by the MMA in July this year.
The competition is open exclusively to Maldivians, including individuals, teams, and businesses. Participants are also permitted to compete in both categories.
Cash prizes will be awarded in both categories. In addition, winners selected under the souvenir category will receive the opportunity to produce the souvenirs through a special agreement with the MMA.
Interested participants are required to complete the application form and proposal available on the MMA website and submit them via email to currency.section@mma.gov.mv. More information regarding the competition is available in the guidebook published on the MMA website.
