Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the launch of a dedicated US dollar purchase service for Umrah pilgrims travelling in organised groups during Ramadan, starting from 8 February 2026.
The service will be available at the BML Customer Service Centre on the ground floor of Ameenee Magu on banking days from 8 to 26 February, between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm.
Tokens for the service will be issued at the venue on the day of collection. To ensure smooth and efficient service, BML has outlined several requirements for customers.
Only travellers whose names are included in the Umrah travellers’ list submitted by registered Umrah groups will be eligible for the service. Pilgrims must present their original national ID card or passport at the time of purchase. If a representative is buying dollars on behalf of a traveller, the representative’s original ID must also be presented.
Under the scheme, customers will be allowed to purchase up to USD 500 per person, and a maximum of five travellers can be served in a single transaction. Payments must be made using BML-issued debit cards.
Meanwhile, pilgrims travelling independently can continue to purchase dollars through the USD Booking Portal, with collection at the Departure Hall of Velana International Airport.
BML also noted that Umrah dollar sales will not be available at branches in the Greater Malé region during this period. However, customers residing outside the Greater Malé area may continue to visit their nearest branches for dollar purchases.
The bank said the initiative aims to facilitate faster and more convenient foreign currency access for Umrah pilgrims ahead of the Ramadan travel period.
