Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has officially opened a new passenger rest and service area at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport (VIA), further enhancing passenger comfort and expanding the terminal’s facilities.
The newly developed space adds approximately 750 square metres of passenger seating on the terminal’s first floor. Designed to accommodate the growing number of travelers, the area offers a variety of seating arrangements, providing passengers with a more comfortable environment while waiting for their flights.
A key feature of the new facility is a dedicated 136-square-metre children’s play area, equipped with multi-level play platforms, woven mesh tunnels, rope and ring climbing features, and a ball pit. The play area has been designed to offer a safe and engaging space for children, making travel through Terminal 1 more convenient for families.
The new passenger area also includes a banking service facility operated by Bank of Maldives (BML). The outlet provides foreign exchange services as well as U.S. dollar issuance services for Maldivian customers, improving access to essential financial services within the terminal.
The opening of the passenger rest and service area marks another milestone in MACL’s ongoing development of Terminal 1. The project reflects the company’s commitment to delivering modern, inclusive, and passenger-focused facilities while continuing to enhance the travel experience at Velana International Airport.
