MPL Denies Talks on Increasing Fees at Malé North Harbour

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has dismissed rumours that the company and the government are in discussions to increase fees charged at Malé North Harbour.

In a statement issued, MPL said there are no ongoing discussions with the government regarding any increase in the current fees at the harbour, describing the claims circulating as baseless.

The company also noted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has instructed MPL to expand services at Malé North Harbour, including providing water and electricity to vessels using the harbour’s A-Zone. MPL said work is underway to launch these services.

“MPL aims to provide more convenient services to vessels operating at Malé North Harbour,” the statement said.

As part of these efforts, the company said changes were introduced to the harbour’s policy. According to MPL, the changes are intended to reduce waiting times for cargo boats and make it easier for vessels to access services.

MPL also expressed concern over the spread of what it described as false information regarding the harbour.

“It is regrettable that misinformation is being circulated to create unnecessary concern among the public regarding Malé North Harbour, which serves the interests of the wider community,” the company said.
